Along with his uncles, Clark formed a group of local fans in Louisville, Kentucky that later became the Louisville Jockey Club. Their club helped raise funds that later helped to build a permanent race track on May 17, 1875. This was the year that held the first ever Kentucky Derby. This event brought more than 10,000 spectators.
