Fans May Attend The 2020 Kentucky Derby On September 5th

The 146th Kentucky Derby is due to take place on September 5, with spectators present. However, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been some changes that have needed to be made. Guidelines have been released for fans and the event organizers to follow which will help to ensure that everyone is kept safe.

These guidelines have been developed in conjunction with the criteria set by Kentucky’s Healthy at Work and the Louisville Metro Health Department.

Ticketing – All tickets will only be sold online or over the phone and you will be required to display them on your mobile phone to gain entry.

Fan Conduct – Fans will be asked to wear a mask or other type of face covering before they enter. You will also be asked to respect social distancing. If you do not feel well on the day of the event, then you should not attend. This advice may be subject to change depending on current public health guidelines at the time of the event.

Guest Safety – Guest capacity will be reduced to allow social distancing to take place effectively. There are also hand sanitizer stations in all contact areas of the venue which you are encouraged to use.

Facility Access – In order to reduce the amount of contact between fans, you will only have access to the section of the venue indicated on your ticket.

General Admission – Access to the facility will be limited to the infield area. You will need to enter the track through the Infield Gate, which is located on the corner of 4th Street and Central Avenue. No guests will be able to access the paddock.

Parking – You are able to park at the Kentucky Expo Center and shuttle buses will be running. However, this will be at a reduced capacity.

Food & Beverage – Food and beverage outlets will be operating on a reduced menu. All food items will be individually wrapped and presented to the customer. You will also be given disposable cutlery that can be discarded when you have finished eating.

Cleaning Protocols – Extra housekeeping staff will be on hand to make sure that all high contact surfaces are cleaned on a regular basis. This includes seating, table tops, handrails and door handles. There will also be extra attendants in the restrooms.
